  • Are your online colours accurate?

Due to the hand-made nature of ceramics, subtle differences in shade and finish can occur from piece to piece. Surface patterns and glazes can vary batch to batch and kiln load to kiln load. We aim to visually depict our products in a variety of settings and different lighting, to help you assess the true colour. As always there is a little difference in digital representation however, we try our hardest to portray the ceramic pieces as close to life and true colour as possible.

  • Where are your products designed?

Each Angus & Celeste ceramic piece is considerately designed and developed in our Melbourne studio. This includes the careful creation of our shapes, moulds and the patterns created for our surface designs. Angus & Celeste carefully manage each part of the design process, right through from the first design concept to the gift box in which you receive your goods. This can mean many rounds of sampling and re-sampling until it is right. Purchasing an Angus & Celeste design means you are buying something that has been thoughtfully conceived in our design studio, and carefully crafted by our production partners.

  • Where are your products made?

We have a range of products entirely made in Australia, as well as collections that are produced by artisan ceramicists and small, specialty production potteries in Eastern Guangdong and Jiangxi Provinces in China. All our partners add a depth of knowledge and experience that is indispensable to the creation of our products. We only partner with small family run potteries.  They all align with our commitment to excellence and carefully craft our designs to meet our high standards on everything, from employee welfare to environmental responsibility. Our brand’s founders have spent 7+ years visiting and managing our design and manufacture process with these producers. To this day, we work alongside, observing each crucial stage of production, all the way from the initial design to the checking and packing of each item. We have a respectful relationship with all our makers, working together to create our signature ‘small batch’ collections. We have a cooperative relationship, never demanding the cheapest or fastest processes, instead opting for fair production lead times and allowing the optimum time needed to complete the details that are intrinsic to each collection.  For more information on our Australian made products, or any other questions you have about our production processes, please contact us via email or telephone.

  • How can I find the product weight and dimensions?

All product details and specifications can be found on each design’s product page. We recommend reading the Overview and Specs tabs on the product page table for all the details.

  • What is an ‘Imperfect’ in your Warehouse Shop ?

Due to the nature of ceramic production and the kiln firing process, products can be slightly less than perfect. It’s common for subtle imperfections in the clay and glaze to occur during the kiln firing stages. As a part of our commitment to sustainability, these imperfect products are filtered out by the A&C Team and placed in our Warehouse Shop at a discounted price!

What does an Imperfect product look like? Impurities in the clay can result in the form of tiny flecks, the rims can become slightly irregular and tiny smudges in the glaze can appear. We deem these all the be incredibly minor and hardly noticeable once potted up!

Our Imperfects are available year round in our Ferntree Gully Warehouse Shop.

  • Can you keep plants in plastic nursery pots inside A&C planters?

You absolutely can. Many people like to keep their plants in the plastic nursery pots and use A&C plant pots as a decorative plant sleeves. This can have benefits for people who wish to change the locations of their plants in the house to get more ‘direct’ or ‘indirect’ sun. This can also be beneficial for more frequent plant swapping! If you are going on holidays, leave your plastic pots in one location for a visitor to quickly water all your plants in one easy location (a floor or balcony) Please note that we recommend keeping an eye on your plants root systems inside plastic pots, as sometimes plant specimens that come from nurseries, will need to be re-potted for the health and longevity of the plant.

  • What size ‘Planter Stand’ would suit my pot?

White Planter Stands come in two styles and work with a variety of A&C pots and planters. Plant stands can elevate your plants on bench tops to assist your plant reach the light or may add to the height of your planter to balance a taller plant specimen. You will find the specific dimensions here.

  • Are drainage plugs included?

Drainage plugs are not included with all pots that include a drip tray. Planters that have plugs/stoppers included are our; Pourer Pods, Spiral Planter Pots and Spouted Vessels. These can be removed to allow you to drain any excess water out of our planter and prevent root rot.

  • What is the purpose of a drip tray?

Just about all A&C plant pots come with a drip-tray included in the design, as keeping your plants healthy is crucial to our design thinking. The drip tray allows for water to be topped up while you are away, or in warm climates where more frequent watering is required. Having a drip tray means you can safely plant directly into the pot and have adequate drainage. A drip tray means you can also move your potted plant to different spaces without leaving water marks behind.

  • Can I plant directly into my planter?

Yes, in fact we encourage it! All our plant pot ranges are designed to have plants potted directly into the non-porous ceramic. Our ceramic planters are high-fired and can handle direct contact with water and all types of soil. If you choose to keep your plants in the plastic nursery sleeve, then be mindful that your plant may benefit from re-potting when they have outgrown the space. We recommend purchasing plant specimens that are a little smaller in size, this way they have room to grow amazingly into your Angus & Celeste planter.

  • How do I use my Self-Watering Plant Pot?

Use your self-watering pot like any other ceramic planter pot and enjoy the benefits of a truly deep water-catchment tray! Depending on the plant, you can water from the top or bottom. Remember that plants still love a deep flush of water that comes from above so that it can drain right through the root system. This self-watering design allows you to keep water topped up in the base while you are away or if you live in a warmer climate where more frequent watering is required. Plants in self-watering pots still need care like any other plant in a pot, so be sure to empty the water out of your catchment tray if the weather is cool! We also recommend using a layer of hydroponic clay balls in the bottom of the pot before adding soil. While this is not essential, it can assist with moisture management and help to avoid root rot issues.

  • Are your product suitable for outdoors?

Yes, they are! All our planters are high fired to ensure that they are durable for outdoor use.  All Angus & Celeste’s glazed, and stained porcelain planters, are non-porous and able to be used outside.

  • How do I care for my hanging planter?

Here are our top tips for looking after your hanging planter.

Watering care: Rest assured that all plants potted into Angus & Celeste hanging planters can be watered like any other potted plant. You can water sparingly with the plug kept in the base, or alternatively the plug can be removed to let a larger volume of water flow through the soil and drain out of the base hole. The plug needs to be repositioned after the water has drained. Please keep in mind that excessive watering, combined with some potting mixes, can trap salts in the cables. This is due to the fertilisers or minerals that can be present in the soil and as a result may contribute to some corrosion. We recommend filling your bowl with high quality potting mix to a level slightly below the rim of the bowl. This will avoid the cables sitting in damp soil, which may accelerate corrosion of the steel. Should tea staining or minor rusting occur, use an organic solvent to clean with a soft brush. Rinse well and dry.

Outdoor care: We recommend that you avoid hanging your planter in ultra-windy environments such as high-rise apartments or verandas where the planter might be likely to swing/move in the air for long periods of time. Make sure that should your planter swing or move a little, that it doesn’t make contact with any surrounding walls, posts, or other objects in the environment.

Coastal living care: Be mindful that when choosing to install hanging planters in outdoor coastal environments, the cable system may need to be updated at some stage during its life span outside. Naturally occurring salts in the seaside air contributes to some rust in the cables over time. You can update your cable sets easily in the accessories section of this website, to keep your planter hanging safely.

  • Are the hanging planters and drainage plugs included?

Absolutely! Each hanging planter design comes complete with a specifically designed cabling system. We thoroughly load test each hanging cable system to sufficiently accommodate for the weight of the soil, plant and water. A rubber plug is also included for drip-free indoor use and to keep in all that watery goodness.

  • Are your product suitable for outdoors?

Yes, they are! All our planters are high fired to ensure that they are durable for outdoor use.  All Angus & Celeste’s glazed, and stained porcelain planters, are non-porous and able to be used outside.

  • Can I extend my hanging planter?

Each hanging planter comes with a complete cable pack that includes one single extension cord strand, along with the 3 cables that support the bowl. Using the extender is optional depending on your space and ceiling height. It may not be essential for you to use this extension cable if you have a low ceiling. It can also be halved and looped over if you only require half the length. Alternatively, if you have a very tall ceiling, you may need more length than the extender height that comes in the pack set. If this is the case in your situation, we have two single extension lengths that are sold separately through this website. Explore your options here. Our extender cables are a suitable gauge steel to support both our small and larger sized hanging bowls.

  • How do I clean the matte surface?

The easiest way to clean our matt ceramics is by using a damp, fibre free sponge. We use regular, kitchen foam sponges. Allow the ceramic to completely dry before wiping away any excess fibres with some butcher’s paper or a white towel. For stubborn marks, you can also sand the area with some fine-gritted sandpaper and repeat the process above. This will most certainly do the trick! All our pots can also be safely put through a regular dishwasher cycle.

  • Do you sell plug and hanger replacements?

Yes! We offer replacement plug packs and cable sets to prolong the life of your planter. These are available in the accessories’ section of this website and can be found here If you are considering alternative hanger lengths to suit your space or to update your cable system, please ensure that the cable system you choose is suitable to support the weight of your specific hanging planter design. Please note that our large sized planters are only to be used with packs D, E and F. These are made with thicker gauge steel, to accommodate the extra weight of the large sized bowl. Smaller sized hanging bowl designs work best with cable packs B and C. If you are unsure about this, please speak with one of our friendly team.

  • Can I plant directly into my planter?

You sure can, in fact we encourage it! Our hanging planters are designed to have plants potted directly into the non-porous ceramic bowl. The bowl is strong and high-fired and can handle direct contact with water and all types of soil. The drainage hole and plug allow for indoor use. If hanging outside, we recommend leaving it to drain freely without the plug. It is advisable to fill your bowl with high quality potting mix to a level slightly below the rim. This will avoid the cables sitting in damp soil, which may accelerate the corrosion of the steel.

  • How do I hang my hanging planter?

Hanging planters can be installed with ease into exposed timber and plaster ceilings. If you choose to hang your planter from a plaster ceiling, make sure to use a stud finder to locate the stud underneath the plaster. This will ensure the hanging bowl is secure, and not just being held by the plaster. Once a stud is found, drill a small hole and screw in a threaded metal hook. Stud finders, threaded metal hooks, plaster and masonry plugs are all readily available at your local hardware store. If you are unsure about hanging an A&C planter safely, we advise contacting a professional (such as your local builder) to ensure your planter is securely installed. Angus & Celeste unfortunately cannot accept responsibility for poor hanging solutions, weak hooks, rusty nails, or inadequate installation.

  • Can I place my Australian Botanicals tableware in the oven?

You certainly can. The high-fired stoneware can withstand oven temperatures.  Please be careful however to not place extremely hot plates directly from the oven into very cold water. This can lead to cracking from thermal shock. Please note we do not recommend placing other tableware ranges in the oven.

  • Is your tableware microwave and dishwasher safe?

Definitely! All our tableware is designed and made to be both dishwasher and microwave safe.

  • How do I hang my ‘Test Tube’ wall vases?

Each vase has a specially designed flat back to sit flush against the wall. The centred hole makes for easy mounting with a nail. Ensure that the nail is secured into a stud to help support the weight of the vase.

  • How can I clean my vase after use?

Flowers and foliage can get messy! Rest assured that all our vases can be cleaned vigorously in your kitchen sink, the same as you would any other piece of ceramic crockery.  You can also place our vases in the dishwasher and put them through a regular wash cycle should you need to get rid of any stubborn marks, inside or out.
